Electronic Detection and Security Limited (EDS), an International CCTV, security and fire system installer now has an 'eye in the sky' to find its engineers, wherever they are in the world, to improve response times and to verify time at locations, following the installation of the RAM vehicle tracking and management system from the UK’s fastest growing provider Remote Asset Management (RAM). Finding mobile engineers by calling each one in turn can be long-winded and tedious at the best of times, but for International companies it can be near impossible. This is just one of the many reasons why businesses turn to innovative vehicle tracking solutions provided by RAM. “A fast and accurate way to locate our engineers was a major reason for wanting a tracking system. We used to have a simple track and trace product, but it wasn’t very good and didn’t allow us any scope for actually managing our fleet,” began Stacey Millar, Office Administrator at EDS. “It was a labour intensive exercise just to locate ‘the closest engineer’ and a lottery as to who we would call first! Having RAM’s system on our vehicles has saved us this frustration and in turn has noticeably decreased our monthly phone bills.

Classic Lifts (Scotland) Limited, a leading lift maintenance company, wanted to maximise productivity, improve customer service whilst providing an auditable trail for timesheet payments and Inland Revenue purposes across its fleet of 8 vans and 4 cars.

"Working over the length and breadth of the highlands has always been a problem for other tracking systems that we have looked at, due to the many blackspots in and amongst the hills. We looked at a variety of solutions, even removing one that was previously installed, before being impressed at the total coverage provided by the Remote Asset Management system," said David McColl, Managing Director of Classic Lifts.

"We have only had the system fitted for about four months now, but the savings are already rolling in. By managing the jobs carried out by our engineers more effectively we have seen a distinct 10 - 15% increase in productivity.

"We have also been able to provide accurate ETAs to our customers when they call us. We can tell them - without any doubt - where our engineers are right down to which street they are driving along at any given moment in time.

"Keeping to our planned schedules - even in the event of a vehicle that breaks down - has been made much easier. We can simply look on our computer and find the closet engineer to pick up the job, keeping things moving and minimising the loss in productivity and time."

"Not only have we been able to verify the hours worked by our employees and pay them correctly, we have been able to use the RAM system to prove whether our drivers have used the vehicles out of hours. We provide an opt-in and opt-out scheme for our engineers who do or do not wish to use the vehicles for private mileage. Those that opt-out can submit the tracking details to the Inland Revenue and avoid the hefty tax liabilities.

"I think the most sincere way of finding out if a tracking system is actually working for you is to see how easily it recovers its own cost. We found that by saving just five minutes per vehicle per day more than covered the cost - something that we were able to report within a matter of days!"

VLC Stair Lifts is using the tracking system to provide an accurate log of the personal usage of company vans by its engineers to release them from the hefty tax implications.

"After seeing a few systems that were on the market we were sure that the RAM system was by far the best," said Judith Green, Managing Director at VLC Stair Lifts Limited.

"The company representative was very informative and not pushy, the system looked highly intuitive and had all of the reporting facilities that we wanted, plus it had many extra features that the other systems were missing."

VLC Stair Lifts installed the RAM tracking system across its fleet of vans. Although the tax regulations were the main reason for having a system, VLC have also received many associated benefits, such as improvements in customer service, saving communications costs and an overall policing of
vehicle usage.

"Traffic reports are incredibly useful as we can avoid road jams, but the best thing by far is being able to click on a vehicle and locate it within seconds, allowing us to proactively plan our day - a swift process that replaces phoning our engineers to ask them where they are, made even more difficult when we would catch them in the middle of a difficult installation.”

"We can use this information to tell the customer exactly when we expect the engineer to arrive. We have always done our very best to work efficiently, but by having the RAM system onboard our vans, we have managed to increase our productivity while saving money at the same time!"

"We can print a time at location report and verify the exact times that an engineer arrived and departed a site, which is incredibly useful if a customer should dispute our attendance," continued Green.

"We want to display a professional image to all of our customers, so we utilise the tracking system to pick up any instances of speeding. We can analyse the reason behind it and offer support or better manage a schedule to keep our engineers road safe."

Swadlincote Property Maintenance (SPM) Limited has increased its productivity, lowered fuel and phone bills and gained direct control over its mobile workforce after fitting a vehicle management tracking system from
Remote Asset Management.

Dealing with rapid response calls from distressed households, SPM wanted a
system that would enable them to deal with their planned maintenance jobs and new incoming emergency work in the most efficient and cost effective way.

"All of our work is carried out within a local area, so distance was not a problem," began Andy Hasell, Managing Director of SPM. "But because we have lots of engineers in a small area, we did not know who was closest to a rapid response job without calling each one in turn. It was starting to get frustrating, calling each guy three or four times every day."

SPM saw the tracking system provided by RAM Tracking and immediately
knew it would provide them with the answer to their problem.

"I was able to sit at my PC and watch the engineers as they worked through their schedule. It is a great feeling to know that you can track an engineer within just a matter of a couple of clicks of a mouse button and respond accurately to a customer who has called through with a new request. This tool has basically allowed me to manage more engineers without extra management staff. I believe the proper management term is spanner-control!”

"As I watch the vehicle movements throughout the day, I can tell what sort of work the engineer has had to do at a property. That knowledge allows me to be proactive, sending in a second engineer if a job takes too long. There is now no need to call them repeatedly, meaning our phone bills are much lower too," said Hasell.

Verifying engineers time worked has also been a big help for both the company and its employees. "We have been able to challenge customers who say, “your engineer was only here for a few minutes” but in real-time it was closer to an hour. It provides invaluable back-up for us and our engineers. We have also cracked down on issues like over-claimed overtime and private mileage - which is a big bonus, given the changes to the vehicle
benefit tax law."

Hasell also says that they have easily saved 20% on fuel, mainly due to eliminating private mileage, but also because the engineers have more efficient route schedules.

"There was no hard sell and the whole process of getting RAM Tracking on board was very smooth and a lot simpler than other tracking solutions we had looked at. Having used the RAM system for a little while now, I cannot imagine how I managed to live without it," concluded Hasell.

Heritage Preservation (Remedials) Limited, a Nottinghamshire-based damp proofing and timber treatment/ replacement specialist, installed a tracking system from the fast growing RAM Tracking, to evaluate how much private
mileage was being done across its busy fleet of four vehicles. "We do not mind our operatives using the vehicles for minimal private usage, as long as it does not affect the working day," began Jeanette Hamilton, Director at Heritage.

"We would often get asked if an operative could pop somewhere, or if we checked the fuel records, we would be told that they just popped out during the evening. It began to concern us to find out the real value of a pop, as it was a term that was used a lot by our operatives!"

The RAM system provides clear records, in real-time and historically, of all vehicle movements, allowing company fleet managers to evaluate the effectiveness of their mobile assets.

"We told our operatives that we had installed the RAM system and that we could check their movements throughout the day and their private mileage after hours. The popping reduced significantly over night, which given the rollercoaster fuel pricing that the country is experiencing at the moment, has a big financial advantage to the company, with our fuel bill dropping over the last 4 weeks," continued Jeanette.

“We chose the RAM system over three others that we had evaluated. We liked what we had seen and the company was certainly the most professional throughout. Monitoring the fuel and private miles was just one aspect of our intended use of the RAM system. We have started to check the time worked by our operatives, qualifying any claims of early starts and late finishes, reducing any overclaimed overtime. It is still early days, as we have only been using the system for a month now, but the added value to our company is surprising.

"We are proactively using the information to increase our productivity too. When we see a job finish early, we can redirect the operative to another job in the local area. Even over the last few weeks, I can comfortably say that our productivity is up and fuel bills are down!"

Companies using the RAM system can live track a vehicle within just a click of the mouse button. "We sometimes get calls from operatives who have gotten a little lost on the way to a job. Vague descriptions of their location can be confusing, but the ability to click a button on the mouse and instantly know where they are in relation to the client is outstanding. We can give accurate directions to get him back on track and call the client if the diversion is likely to cause a delay. It does impress the clients, so it does provide a value added element to our service.

It is a great business improvement and management tool and I can see how it will be a benefit to our company over the coming months," concluded Jeanette.

TFB Contract Cleaning Limited, a national commercial and domestic cleaning operator, has maximised fleet usage, saving money and improving customer service by installing a vehicle tracking system from RAM Tracking. "We looked at seven tracking systems, but only RAM met all of our needs," said Steve Brown, Contracts Director at TFB Contract Cleaning Limited. "But what really made us happy that we had chosen RAM was the incredibly helpful sales and customer services team they have. The help and assistance - even prior to signing on the dotted line, was second to none! The RAM tracking system is used by many companies to monitor fleet activities, which is in turn used to maximise profits and reduce fleet wastage. One aspect that has excited bosses at TFB is the traffic condition and forecast module.

"The Traffic Condition and Forecast element is fantastic! Within a few clicks and a couple of minutes I can notify a customer if one of our drivers will be late to a job. Our guys sometimes call us to say they are stuck in a traffic jam. We can both confirm this and work proactively to inform the client - they really love it when we tell them that we have easy access to this level of information. However, our biggest issue has been providing a comprehensive system that can help our lone workers and meet the strict H&S policy that is in place. Now we have the RAM system we can easily check for potential problems. We had an incident
happen quite recently. Alone worker, who had left their last job, was heading to their next appointment. We had a call from the client asking where our driver was. We checked the system as we knew there was no
mobile signal out there and saw that he had got as far as Woodhead Pass. Strangely his vehicle had stopped for 25 minutes, but the engine was idling. Within a matter of a couple of clicks I had checked the road conditions and found there has been an accident, fortunately it was not involving our driver. I tuned into the local radio station to learn more and then called the client and explained the situation."

"If we had not got the system on our vehicles, then we had have never been able to notify the client so quickly - the impression it has on the clients has incredible value. Locating the closest vehicle to a job is also a great feature of the system. We had a rapid response call from a client about a badly soiled toilet in a public place. We try to respond within 25 minutes, but thanks to knowing where our driver are, we had an operative on site, dressed in his bio-hazard overalls and had cordoned off the site in record time. The result was another extremely impressed
client. We banned all private mileage when we had the system fitted. We have always been concerned about private mileage and more so since the changes in the van benefit allowance, but I can safely say that we now monitor it and must be saving around £30 per week in fuel alone. I am also talking to our insurance company about it and they reckon we can look towards a 5-7% discount next year. I can safely say that it is been the best decision we have made in a long time," concluded Brown.

WITH a 20% saving on fuel and communication costs and rising to become the number one service provider to their clients, DJ Taylor Contractors Ltd has not looked back since fitting a vehicle tracking
system from the UKs fastest growing telematics provider, R.A.M - Remote Asset Management Limited.

The company wanted a system that could help them better manage their resources. Dave Taylor, Managing Director or DJ Taylor Contractors Ltd, said: "We knew the best way forward would be to install a vehicle tracking system, but with so many available on the market we were unsure of which way to turn."

"After many hard sells, I was amazed by the fresh approach that RAM took when demonstrating the system. They understood my business, they knew our problems and most importantly, they were able
to show me an immediate solution!"

"Since installation our KPIs have improved to the point where we are the number one provider with many of our clients," continued Dave. "Our workforce is highly motivated and certainly less stressed as we can now
assign the closest engineer to attend ad-hoc and urgent jobs.

"Client no-access - when a customer fails to show up or access is barred - has always been a problem for us. This waste of time and fuel - let alone the inherent in productivity it causes - cost us dearly. Now with the RAM tracking system, I can show that we were in a location at a pre-agreed time. This makes no-access provable, meaning that we can now get payment for them. This fact alone covers the cost of the system…the rest of the advantages is simply a value added bonus!"

The company has reported a 20% saving in fuel and communication costs, all of which DJ Taylor has re-invested into the company infrastructure.

"The RAM tracking system is simplicity itself! In short, we love it. I just wish we had installed it years ago when I think of all the money we could have saved to-date!"

MANCHESTER-based Wright Build Limited, a highly respected building maintenance company, has potentially saved up to £200k in the first 24 months after installing a fleet managements system from the rapidly
growing RemoteAssetManagement.co.uk (RAM).

The RAM system, which is fitted to 33 transit vans operated by the company, has reportedly saved over £1k per week in over-claimed overtime, 3 hours per day in unnecessary travel and has successfully pushed productivity through the roof.

"We had looked at a few tracking systems and even had one installed for a short while, but that was a waste of time and proved to be worse than useless," said Lee McKenzie, Director of Wright Build. "We reinvestigated
the systems available on the market and found that the RAM system was a world apart from the rest. It is intuitive, accurate and most importantly - it works!"

"We knew there was additional overtime being booked and that vehicles were being used for private mileage, which concerned us greatly as we
could not actually prove it. Following the installation of the RAM tracking system we were able to pick up and correct these issues, but thanks to the management reports produced by the system, we also saw some inefficiencies in the way our fleet operated - an aspect that would have been impossible to see if not for the clarity of the tracking system.

"We have managed to shave off around 3 hours per day of unnecessary travel, and as a result, our productivity has greatly increased."

Lee and his team encountered many situations where they needed to react quickly to a call, such as finding a specific part that is needed to complete a job. The engineer would return to base to pick up or order the part. Now, the company tracks its engineers and contacts those that are in close proximity to enquire if they are carrying the part and a quick exchange can be made.

"The RAM system is a common sense business tool that is saving us lots of money. It is safe to say that it pays for itself many times over," concluded Lee.

SLK Interiors wanted to add another tier of service to its already impressive track record of satisfied customers. The addition of a tracking system gives SLK the clarity of its operations on a real-time basis.

"Our customer base is mostly made up of retailers," said Steve Kittrick, Managing Director of SLK Interiors Limited. Having us decorate their shop or superstore can mean in some cases a certain amount of down-
time for them, which is why we need to be as punctual as possible. We have garnered a reputation for our punctuality, but we wanted to go one step further to be able to provide real-time information about the loca-
tion of our decorators - particularly in the case of unforeseen traffic problems.

"On the few occasions where traffic has slowed down one of our drivers, we could have vastly improved our customer service by reporting the live location to the customer, rather than guessing how long it'll take to
arrive. The RAM tracking system allows us to add that extra level of customer service into our business."

SLK operates a fleet of 5 Renault Traffic vans, covering contracts in the UK and abroad. Employee wages are paid on a two-tier system. The first rate is paid for travelling and the second rate when they arrive on site and begin work.

"We've found that there is now less travel time and more work time," laughs Kittrick. "At least we can now back up these times with the new
tracking system. I'd say we've seen an extra 20% in productivity and saved a small fortune on the travel and work rates - by at least 10% extra in profits.

The cost of the system is recovered within the first 2 hours of work!
"Having direct control over the vans at any point in time has given us the opportunity to react immediately to a potential problem and maximise the efficiency of the fleet."

The tracking system provides SLK Interiors with a valuable anti-theft device, which fortunately hasn't had to be used yet. The insurers fully recognise the benefit of the RAM tracking system and immediately discounted the SLK policy by 5%.

"We may seem like a small company on the outside, but our operation is truly working on a huge scale with this tracking system at the core. The control and flexibility gives us a distinct advantage over all of our competitors," concluded Kittrick.

As fleet costs continue to rise rapidly across almost every sector, Applied Heating Services Limited - a Tyne and Wear-based heating maintenance company, has managed to shave hundreds of pounds off its mobile
overheads each month after fitting a vehicle tracking device from remoteassetmanagement.co.uk (RAM).

Keeping fuel and wage costs under control is already a mammoth task for many companies, but the recent change made by the Inland Revenue to the van benefit tax has alarmed employers and their mobile work-
ers, as personal tax bills suddenly rose by nearly 600%!

"We had many good reasons to use a vehicle tracking system, but the change in the van benefit charge made it an essential requirement," said George Cossey, Director at Applied Heating Services Limited.

"The change in the benefit means that drivers, who use company vehicles for personal reasons, could face a £3,500 van benefit charge in addition to the NI contributions associated with company vehicle use. As we were just as accountable as our drivers, we needed a system that would accurately show us the mileage done per vehicle and that was accepted by the HMRC.

"We looked around the market and saw many systems, but the RAM system clearly stood out from the crowd. It wasn't wrapped up in reams of nonsense sales bumpf - it was just a straightforward solution that instilled confidence in its capabilities."

"Monitoring the vehicles to comply with the HMRC has also allowed us to crack down on unnecessary miles, which has resulted in a saving of over £400 per month off our fuel bills. This pays for the system in itself meaning that it has cost us nothing to put it in!"

"We've had so many benefits from the system. We can identify where our engineers are at the click of a mouse button, assigning the closest employee jobs as they arise. Reporting time spent on site is also a
major bonus for us as it provides proof of service and allows us to bill our clients with great accuracy.

"However we do get the odd job where a client will allege our engineer was only on site for 'no more than 35 minutes'. In one case we were able to prove that the so-called 35 minutes was actually two hours and 10 minutes! Prior to the RAM system we would have been lucky to draw a compromise, loosing valuable billed time," concluded Cossey.

Derby-based Etta plumbing Limited has a small fleet of seven vans, which are being tracked by the RAM system, to provide a highly efficient auditable trail that proves the hours worked by their engineers and allows them to be more proactive when an emergency call comes in.

Steve Jackson, Managing Director, said: "We don't need to call our engineers to find them now, we just take a quick look at the computer. This instant visibility is simply amazing, but coupled with the fact
that the system operates over the Internet, means that I don't even have to be in the office to find out who's doing what!

“We can safely say that the system pays for itself and the gains in productivity are definitely noticeable, but one factor that does pay its
dividends is the ability to invoice customers from the job reports that it produces.

“We can justify our chargeable rates and prove exactly how long an engineer was on site - it's all there in black and white!

Private mileage has always been a grey area in taxation, but the recent change in the way the tax is calculated will see many getting unfairly slapped with a £3,500 van benefit charge.

Our engineers that don't use the vehicles for private use are protected, as reports can be submitted to the Inland Revenue as proof."

Following an opportunist theft from a factory yard in Hull, on Tuesday 12th August, van owner and local business director Paul Thompson, of Kingstown Plumbing Services, has said it's 'probably the fastest bust in history,' after tracking and guiding police to it's location within just nine minutes by using a vehicle tracking system fitted by RAM Tracking. Hull Based Kingstown Plumbing Services, a national services contractor with a 12-ststroing fleet of vehicles, was informed by an employee that a van had been stolen from a yard where the company was working.

"The second our man had said 'stolen' I fired up the tracking system and
started to look for its location," said Paul Thompson, Managing Director. We had the RAM system installed so we could keep better control over our mobile assets to improve productivity and reduce costs, but in the case of theft, it was instinct to start tracking the vehicle as it shows me down to street level where the vans are." Paul Noted that the van's engine was started at 12:50pm and fixed it's location within a matter of seconds.

Phoning the police, Paul gave detailed directions to their rapid response
traffic team. "I saw the van stop at 1:07pm - nine minutes later, and the
police confirmed that two criminals were caught just moments after.
"I'd say that must be the fastest bust in history," continued Thompson.

Paul considers himself lucky to have the RAM system on his vehicles. "Fortunately there was no real effect to the job we were on, however we're lucky that we had fitted RAM - just four months ago, as this theft could have been very costly and painful. I would have needed a hire vehicle, tools would have been lost and I dread to think what my insurance premiums would have been like next year!"

Kingstown Plumbing Services had been thinking of installing a tracking system for sometime, but ed RAM following a great review by a business friend. "My friend who operates a local business uses RAM and gets great value for money on their services. I knew we needed one as we were growing and I wanted a way to ensure our expansion would be as efficient as possible. The tracking system keeps the business directly under my control. I can see where our engineers are and can respond quickly to emergency calls.

"We use the information it collates to pay our drivers- meaning that we do save money on over claimed overtime. But it does work in our engineers' favour too. We've picked up on overtime that they've forgotten to claim, meaning that they get a bigger pay-packet than expected! We have also eliminated private use, keeping us on the good side of the taxman. I think its unquestionable protection for ourselves and our staff. Of course, the knock on effect of this is that we've also saved around 15% on our fuel bills - a factor that could affect us with
the rollercoaster fuel prices we're seeing," concluded Thompson.

Eliminating unauthorised private vehicle use and gaining total control and visibility over its fleet of six vans, Huddersfield-based Carlton Alarms Limited has been reaping the many benefits of a vehicle management
and tracking system from the UK’s fastest growing provider Remote Asset Management (RAM).

“We installed the RAM system, sat back and waited to see what the results would be. That’s when we got a huge shock,” began Carlton Littleford, Director of Carlton Alarms Limited.

“We were hopeful to see some improvement across our fleet, but we never expected to make huge savings from it! The amazing visibility of watching our vehicles moving around a map between customer locations
meant that we could find any of our engineers at any time and provide live ‘real-time’ reports of where they were, which was incredibly useful when customers asked for estimated arrival times.”

RAM’s vehicle management solution provides clients with real-time tracking data – viewed on an interactive digital map, which can be
zoomed from afar as countrywide down to accurate street level detail in a matter if seconds, and a comprehensive suite of intuitive historical management reports.

“The real-time aspect of the system has allowed us to regain control of our resources, meaning that we’ve cracked down on private mileage,
improved our customer service and increased our productivity by assigning the engineer that is closest to the job. The fuel savings alone pay for the cost of the system and the rest of the benefits are quite simply value added bonuses – it’s the best business management tool we’ve ever had!”

Since the changes in the tax law earlier in the year, many companies have signed up with RAM to ensure that their operation is not exposed to the potential threat of crippling bills from the HMRC, which is now 600% more costly than in previous years. “Whilst we’re excited about the potential of saving money on fuel costs, it was concerning that we had no way of actually proving that our drivers weren’t using the vehicles after hours. I wasn’t prepared to allow the company to shoulder this liability, and knew from seeing the RAM system in operation that it would provide us with the level of detail we need to keep the inspectors at the HMRC happy,” concluded Littleford.

Electronic Detection and Security Limited (EDS), an International CCTV, security and fire system installer now has an eye in the sky to find its engineers, wherever they are in the world, to improve response times
and to verify time at locations, following the installation of the RAM vehicle tracking and management system from the UK’s fastest growing provider Remote Asset Management (RAM).

We used to have a simple track and trace product, but it wasn’t very good and didn’t allow us any scope for
actually managing our fleet,” began Stacey Millar, Office Administrator at EDS.

“It was a labour intensive exercise just to locate ‘the closest engineer’ and a lottery as to who we would call first! Having RAM’s system on our vehicles has saved us this frustration and in turn has noticeably decreased our monthly phone bills.

“The ability to quickly view a digital map to locate our engineers is simplicity itself, but to have it their locations in real-time,
means we can assign emergency jobs with no hassle at all!”

“Our customers love the faster response times and our ability to give estimated, yet highly accurate arrival times,” continued Millar.

“We are able to check times on and off site to verify timesheets and expense claims and, because we can manage our engineer’s schedule more efficiently, we are seeing an increase in productivity. Furthermore
the whole process has seamlessly integrated into our daily work, so having the RAM system has made things a lot easier!”

“We have just placed an order for more units from RAM as we feel that the system is intrinsic to the safe and efficient operation of our company. We value principles such as road safety. We do not need to interrupt our engineers while they are driving, thereby doing our part in increasing road safety,” concluded Millar.

Roger Wood, Director of Argus Security Systems Limited, said: “Installing the RAM vehicle tracking system just a couple of months ago has been one of the best business decisions we’ve made. It is already paying for itself, which means I’m essentially getting it for free!”

“We wanted to check our engineers timesheets, as an auditable process to ensure that we were making correct payments for the time that was actually being worked. We’ve also had some issues in the past where a customer disputed the time we’d spent on site and needed to have a way of proving it in black and white and finally we were concerned about the major change in the Inland Revenue’s van benefit charge and how it would affect both us and our employees.”

“Of all the systems we saw initially, the RAM system had the easiest and most intuitive user interface. We’re an SME and every penny does count, so the fact that we could use the system with no upfront costs and that it started to save us money from day one, helped our cash flow immensely.

“We’re now happy that the timesheets are accurate and thanks to the increased visibility that the system gives us, we’re able to plan
better routes and easily locate the closest engineer to a job within a matter of seconds. This has saved us money on wasted fuel and
phone calls. We’re a safety conscious company too, so it helps that we’re not disturbing the drivers whilst they’re on the road,” said
Wood.

“We were also very concerned about the changes to the Van Benefit tax, in which we need to prove that a vehicle is not being used for private mileage in or outside of work time. To protect ourselves and our employees, we are now able to provide a declaration from the RAM system showing that the vehicles were not moved at the end of the day. We couldn’t have proven that conclusively in any other way.”

Bosses at Medi-Quipment Services wanted to ensure that their service engineers vans were fully utilised during the many call outs and scheduled appointments that they receive every day.

Kathryn Taylor, Director, said: "We knew a vehicle tracking system would be crucial in organising our fleet activities. Our Systems Manager evaluated many tracking products, but was convinced that the RAM system was quite simply the best on the market, due to it's simple interface, incredible accuracy and that it would prove easy to integrate in to our current office procedures.

"We can now react instantly to an emergency call out by ing the closest engineer to the job. This means that we can offer a rapid response service while saving on time and fuel expenses!

“It also means that the time the client is indisposed is kept to a minimum. As we are able to effectively manage our mobile assets on a live basis, then print and analyse the reports afterwards.

“I can confirm without question that our fuel bills have reduced significantly, our productivity has increased and our fleet is operating more efficiently than ever before. I believe the RAM system is simply one of the best business decisions that we've ever made."

Midlands-based scaffolding company Scaffold Services Limited has cut down on their phone bill by switching to a vehicle tracking system, from Remote Asset Management, to provide the all important answer to the question: “Where are my drivers?”

Operating a fleet of 6 vehicles from their Leicester based site, Scaffold Services Limited can now see – at the click of a button – where all of their drivers are, which is saving them hundreds of pounds each year in phone and administration costs.”

Wayne Handford, Operations Manager, said: “We would spend many hours a week chasing our drivers and asking them if they’d completed a , visited certain locations and, more often than not, where they were.”

“We searched around the market for a tracking system as we knew that would provide us with the visibility that we needed and even trialled many systems, but found most to be difficult and awkward to use. The RAM system was different however, we found it to be incredibly simple
yet highly effective for our purposes. Their representative was friendly and sincere and the system was incredibly intuitive.”

“We had to trust the drivers word that they were at a location, but now we can see them on a map within a matter of seconds. However, the archived files provide – in my opinion, the clearest legal protection that any fleet operation could need. We can easily back track through the files to verify a particular situation, which could be anything from confirming a customer -off, arguing a speeding ticket or in the
case of an accident.”

“It also helps us to keep track of our supplies, as the drivers can accidentally forget to record a . We now don’t need to rely on a paper-based solution.”

In the face of rising fuel costs, a North West painting and decorating firm has slashed its monthly petrol bill by over £3,800 in its first six-weeks of using a vehicle fleet tracking system by Remote Asset Management Limited (RAM). Dave Luck Limited fitted the RAM tracking system to the fleet of 21 vehicles after concerns that their monthly £6,000 fuel bill was set to increase even further in line with the rapidly rising petrol pump prices.

Denise Luck, Director at the company said: “We wanted to be sure that we were getting the best value per mile out of our vans and knew that a tracking system would be the best answer, but were afraid of the assumed expense of these systems. We saw the system from RAM and instantly liked what it could do. The ability to track in real-time is great, but the system could show us at a glance who was speeding and where our tradesmen were. And the price was fantastic, not what we had originally expected.”

“I never expected the result we achieved it was nothing less than amazing. We evaluated the RAM system after the first month and found that our fuel bill had reduced by £3,800, that’s over 60%, which is frightening if we project this figure over the period of a year – making a whopping £45,600, to be saved and it’s straight off the bottom line,”
continued Luck.

The company’s vans were being used for private miles, but the directors had no way of proving this, until the RAM tracking system had been installed. “Private use virtually stopped overnight,” explained Luck. “We’ve been concerned about private miles since the law changed
last April with regard to the van benefits. With the tracking system in place I feel it not only protects us as an employer, but the employees too, as they can prove extremely easily that they have not done any private miles.”

Luck is also pleased that the RAM system helps to protect their employees from clients who allege that the tradesmen were not on site for the time that was invoiced. “We had an occasion recently where we had to check the arrival and departure time on site to argue a claim made by a client. Normally these situations are difficult to resolve, but in a matter of minutes we had printed a report confirming that our lads had been there for the agreed times and our bill was indeed correct.”

The company has also claimed that their productivity has drastically increased, with some situations where multiple tradesmen are working on one job meaning as much an extra day’s labour is being done each day! "A phenomenal product and a great business decision,” said Luck. “I actually feel that I’m in direct control of all of our resources for the first time.”

Yorkshire based Amalgamated Construction (AMCO) has implemented a policy regarding the 100% use of vehicle tracking systems, following successful results from 150 units already installed by RAM Tracking.

The transport manager for AMCO commented: “We first had the RAM telematics system installed in some of our vehicles in 2006, but this quickly increased due to the benefits we received, and we now have 150 vehicles with the units in them. This currently equates to 98% of our fleet but we have every intention of this becoming 100% very soon!

When asked why they chose RAM’s system, the transport manager said it was as much to do with the people as the system itself. “Following recommendation from our IT department – who had tested the system thoroughly to make sure it integrated seamlessly with our existing operating procedures – the team from RAM then presented it to AMCO. They were very pro-active in ensuring that we had all the information
that we needed to make a decision, as well as demonstrating its ease of use and efficiency, and how it had benefitted their other clients.

RAM continues to be our supplier of choice, for our telematics needs, because not only does the system deliver, but we receive fantastic service with ongoing support and free development s too.”

Although there was initial resistance from some AMCO employees, this was quickly dispelled when the benefits were explained. As a result the company is now able to track where and how fast their drivers are going whether they’re using the most cost-effective route locate vehicles and divert crews to urgent jobs quickly and efficiently as well as using the system as proof/evidence to refute speeding or accident
allegations.

WHEN your drivers enter a congestion-charging zone and forget to mention it, it can become very costly very quickly with the standard £8 charge shooting up to £120 in just 14 days. However these costly penalties are no longer a problem following the installation of a vehicle tracking system from the fast growing RAMTracking.

"We had already been talking about using a tracking system to monitor vehicle activity," began Paula French, Director at NMF Plumbing installations Limited. “It was perfect timing when the RAM system was referred to us. We wanted to check for overclaimed overtime, be able to find out where our drivers were at any point and provide clear, unquestionable billing for our clients. The RAM system provides us just what we need!"

"We now check and approve all timesheets, verifying early starts with
ease," continued French. "We are also able to pick up on any charges
from the congestion zone in London in advance of getting a penalty
notice - which following a few days, can become very expensive. Our
drivers are very committed to getting the job done, but in doing so
might just nip into the zone to pick up a part from a merchant. With
everything that happens in a busy day, we found they were forgetting
to tell us that they'd entered the zone, until a penalty notice landed on
my desk some 10 days later. Using RAM's system, we can see who
has been into the zone and pay the charge early, saving us a small
fortune."

Following the changes to the tax law last year, many companies are using the data from RAM's tracking system to keep the Taxman happy and informed of any private vehicle usage. "We can easily verify the usage of all of our vehicles. However, we did have a situation recently where a vehicle was being used for private mileage even though the employee was on holiday. We thought that it had been stolen at first, however on checking it seemed that a family member had found the van keys at the employees home and had decided to use the vehicle for their
own use without anyone knowing! If that had continued it could have been quite costly for the employee, but we were able to stop it immediately."

"We don't provide mobile phones to our drivers, although all of our lads generally have pay as you go phones, but they've normally run out of credit just when they need it! We've had situations where we get a two-second call from an engineer that has broken down on the motorway. Although they don't have enough credit to tell us where they are, we know to live-track them so we can send a repair team out to them. We've definitely saved money," said French. "The RAM system does pay for itself and more besides, but the main reason for having it isn't nec-
essarily for financial gain, we feel it has incredible value as a tool that promotes fleet optimisation."

Midlands based company, Jade Shop Fitters has gained a reputation over the past 35 years as a professional, progressive contractor and has worked for all the major retail groups. With weekly work taking place all around the UK, Jade use RAM Vehicle Tracking to ensure that they control costs, improve efficiency and provide the very best service to their customers…

“RAM Tracking has helped us on many levels right from the start… We can now offer our clients detailed reports about time spent on their projects… traveling times… days and hours worked etc. Everything is just a couple of clicks of your mouse and that’s it. The software is so quick and easy to use… it really is brilliant!

Ensuring that the lads reach site on-time is very important to us… and customers often ring in to ask for their ETA’s. Before we had RAM Tracking, we would have to try to call the relevant vehicle to find out where they were and what time they were actually going to get to site! Now we just look on the system and let the customer know straight away. This one aspect saves us lots of time and always impresses our clients.

RAM is a truly flexible solution, as we can access information from any computer with internet access. We can see the speed of vehicles in real time, as well as routes taken - there’s even live traffic information.
Morning pick-ups are a lot smoother. Right from the start of each day this is making us a lot more efficient.

Another important use of the tracking system is to have an accurate record of the hours worked by each member of staff, as we always ensure that they have a minimum of 11 hours ‘off work’ after each 12 hour shift (for health and safety reasons). From the moment our lads leave home until they return we can see exactly how many hours they have worked and where they have been. It’s all there in black and white.

We really like the vehicle diary feature too. It helps ensure that we book the vans in for servicing at the right times, as well as reminding us about tax and insurance renewals. RAM really do think of everything. Finally we can safely state that RAM Tracking ‘pays for itself’ many times over… from the very start! “

Leicester-based A.R. Smith & Sons Limited has successfully lowered fleet overheads whilst consistently impressing its clients with speedy arrival times since fitting a vehicle tracking system from Remote Asset
Management (RAM).

Servicing both business and residential clients from across the UK, the electrical installer and maintainer say it has successfully increased productivity and reduced vehicle operating costs across its fleet of seven vans.

“We’ve had the RAM system for about two months now and we consider it to be one of the finest business improvement tools we have,” said Darren Kirk, Director at A.R. Smith & Sons Limited.

“We wanted to make sure our payroll was being processed accurately and that the engineers were being paid for the times they actually worked. In some cases that has meant less claimed overtime and in others it has helped verify jobs that have genuinely taken longer than planned. So in all, I feel it has been a fair system for both our employees and us.

“It also means that the system pays for itself. If we have just two engineers over-booking half an hour overtime each week, it’s easy to see how we can recover the cost by stopping this from happening.”

“Since using the RAM system, we can locate an engineer within seconds, then route them to the new client. We aim to arrive within about 30 minutes of taking the call, which never ceases to amaze them!

“Saving money on a fleet operation is crucial, so as the petrol pump prices fluctuate it’s good to know that we’re getting the most efficient use out of our vehicles. We also monitor vehicle speeds to ensure maximum
safety on the roads. Aside from this we can also monitor the mileage in and out of work hours, keeping us on the right side of the taxman!”

“We are truly impressed with the service from RAM. The system does exactly what it says it does, so the company obviously doesn’t need to employ hard-sell tactics, which is a refreshing change,” concluded Kirk.

Exeter-based Mulberry Group has saved over £400 per month on fuel, which equates to a 35% saving, since eliminating all private mileage, by tracking all of its engineers.

“We knew gratuities were being taken by drivers using the vans out of hours, but we could not prove it,” said Cary Burwood, Director at Mulberry Group. “We only allow business use – particularly as the petrol pump prices are rapidly rising, and knew we would have a problem if we did not do something quick. We came across Remote Asset Management and instantly liked what we saw.”

The company wanted to start reaping the benefits of using the system as soon as possible, a request that RAM took literally, by fitting all of the six vehicle tracking units on the Sunday prior to Christmas, allowing the
Mulberry Group to begin reducing their fleet costs immediately after the New Year break.

“When we returned back to work in January 2008, all the tracking units were in operation and we suddenly had a clear view of what our fleet was doing,” continued Burwood. By cracking down on private mileage we were able to shave £400 off our monthly fuel expenses, which stopped almost overnight, but there soon appeared to be many
more areas where we were able to save money, directly from our bottom line.

“We decided to use the tracking reports as an electronic timesheet, using their site arrival and departure times as payable hours. Since then we have seen our productivity rise, as our engineers are now on site at 8am, instead of still being on the road at 8.45am! I would say we are getting about 80 hours extra work per week based on this.”

“The RAM system is easy to use, which given how busy we are was a key factor in ing it. We did not want a system that became another full day chore,” said Burwood.

“In fact, it allows us to be proactive with our daily duties. We can now provide customers with accurate ETAs on site, we can verify hours worked on site and use this for billing enquiries and we can easily find the closest engineer to a job when we get an emergency call. All of this is a breeze to do, which saves us time calling everyone on their mobiles. The savings in both money and time more than pay for the use of the system. We are incredibly happy to have RAM onboard all of our vans!”

NML Contracts Limited, a leading civil engineering, diamond drilling and specialist demolition company operating throughout the UK, managing a busy fleet of 23 vans, is ecstatic after driving down fuel and
wage bills.

"We knew we could benefit from a tracking system, and chose RAM following a comprehensive search of the market," began John Oliver, Business Manager at NML Contracts Limited.

"I was of the belief that a system should integrate seamlessly into the daily workload. Of the many systems we saw, only RAM was able to provide an easy to use interface, superior software and an overall
operations strategy, which was both credible and provable!

"We wanted to keep track of our personnel times on and off site to validate time worked and to provide accurate billing to our clients. We were also very concerned about the drastic changes to the HRMC van benefit charge."

Since the changes made by HMRC to the van benefit charge earlier in the year, more companies are becoming concerned that they could
be landed with a huge tax bill, which has increased by at least 600% on previous years if they do not monitor private usage of company
vehicles.

"We do not permit any private usage of our vehicles. Now we have RAM in place, we have peace of mind knowing that every journey can be audited and matched to actual work. I know the HMRC will accept
the reports from RAM as proof, so that alone makes the system worth its weight in gold," continued Oliver.

"We have had a couple of parking tickets and insurance claims made against our drivers. Normally this would pose a problem, as we had no way of proving that it did or did not happen. Now, we check all claims
against the RAM historical reports and can provide unquestionable proof when we need to deny the claim.

"We have got everything we wanted out of the system and can easily see how the system recovers its own costs! It truly is a business tool that no company should be without," concluded Oliver.

PLEASE, can I have some more work, is not a request that many companies get from their employees these days, but since fitting a RAM Tracking system to its fleet of three vehicles, North Yorkshire electrical retailers G.Craggs Limited are delighted that their installers have begun asking for more work when their scheduled job finishes early. G.Craggs Limited, a leading installer of TV and home appliances across North Yorkshire, enlisted RAM Tracking to identify any inefficiencies in their operation and to improve customer services, should a customer enquire about an appointment. "Knowing where all of your guys are at any point in time has got to be the best way to manage your business," said Stephen Craggs, Managing Director.

"That's why we turned to RAM's Tracking system to show us where we can increase productivity and save on costs. Of all the technology we saw, RAM was by far the most stable company out there, which gave us great reassurance in their ability to support the service in the long term."

"I couldn't believe how fast the system had an effect on my guys," continued Craggs. "In fact, the same day that the system was installed, I had one employee back in my office asking for more work as he'd finished his jobs early. That's never happened before, so I'm extremely confident that we are getting more productivity across the fleet."

RAM tracking operates on the GSM and GPRS networks, meaning that the fleet can be live tracked wherever it is - even in rural areas. "The mobile signal is terrible out in the rural parts of North Yorkshire. However, with the RAM system we can see where they are at any time of the day, so if something happens on the road and it has the potential of
delaying the arrival of our installer, we can call the client ahead of time and them with an accurate ETA. "

"We can now react more quickly to incoming calls. It's a simple process to check the locations of our installers on screen, then reassign the closest to the new job. Overall, a few quick clicks of the mouse saves on wasted mileage, office staff time and communication costs chasing individual installers. We fire off an sms message informing them of the new job which is often just a 5 minute non-chargeable after sales visit and we know he'll automatically change his schedule to accommodate it. This also impresses the clients when we react so quickly to their call!

"There are so many potential benefits to gain by using the RAM system. Lone workers issues are covered as we can track unusual activities and send support if needed, we can monitor private mileage and cut our fuel
bills even further - something we have done successfully in a very short space of time.

"The RAM system truly is a unique tool for managing and maximising the usage of our fleet," concluded Stephen Craggs.

IN a little over two months, London's fastest growing premier chauffeur service, Total Transportation Limited, has reported more efficient job allocations and improved customer relations since fitting a vehicle tracking system from Telematics provider, remoteassetmanagement.co.uk (RAM).

The company initially wanted to become more proactive when dealing with incoming calls, locating and assigning the closest vehicle, without the need to call and disturb the driver.

"It's totally unprofessional - not to mention unsafe, to call a driver whilst they are on the road," began Russell Jones, Managing Director of Total Transportation Limited.

"We pride ourselves on delivering a premier chauffeur service to all of our clients. However, to continually achieve this level of service I knew we needed the finest fleet management tool available at our fingertips. After evaluating other systems, and based on my previous experience with another telematics provider, we quickly concluded that the RAM system was the most user friendly and intuitive on the market."

Utilising the live tracking feature of the RAM system, drivers can be located within a matter of seconds, down to the exact street level, allowing Total's planning office to assign a call in real-time, while the driver completes the previous job.

"Working proactively like this has been a huge boost to our productivity, and has helped us eliminate unnecessary additional mileage," continued Jones.

"The RAM system has fast become an integral part of our operation. We can use the detailed reports to provide unquestionable proof of service should a dispute arise.

"Although we haven't had the system long enough to monitor and substantiate the actual financial benefits, I feel confident in saying that it is a huge commercial benefit to the company and has been one of the best business decisions we have made. From the initial call just a few months ago to today, RAM has delivered on all of their promises with a 'helpful fuss-free' service and have provided us a powerful fleet management tool," concluded Jones.

Land Rover Parts Delivery

Managing a busy fleet of part-delivery vehicles, Lookers made the decision to install a RAM tracking system to enable them to provide better information for their clients when they call to request an arrival time.

"Our customers would call us to ask when they should expect the parts van to arrive," began Jon Prowse, Parts Manager at Lookers plc (Southern Region). We'd hang up, call the driver, obtain the information and then call the customer back - and on a good day that could be a fairly quick process, but often the driver would be busy or the signal reception could be poor the office phone would ring and 20 more jobs could land on our desks before calling the client back. We knew that having a tracking system on our vans would mean we could streamline that process."

"We were drawn to RAM as their website is very informative and their customer services contact was extremely helpful throughout my call, providing me with a sound understanding of what we could do with the system and even arranged to let me see a live demonstration. It's simply amazing," continued Prowse. "A customer now calls through
and within a matter of seconds and a couple of mouse clicks, we can locate a vehicle in real-time and provide a reliable ETA to the client whist they stay on the line. It is easy and impresses the customer no end. The system is very intuitive and even the quality of the mapping is nothing less than incredible!

"However, the RAM Tracking system allows us to provide even more valuable information for use in a multitude of situations. We've had our drivers come into the office suggesting that they've done more work and mileage than the rest of the team. Again, within a matter of a few moments I can print off a simple report that shows exactly how much mileage they've done in comparison with the rest of the team. It helps us to show how we fairly distribute the workload and helps to strengthen employee relations too."

RAM's system has also helped companies to recover stolen vehicles, meaning that jobs are rarely unaffected by opportunist vehicle crime, and insurance policy's remain unaffected in these circumstances, or even get special reductions during policy renewals. We had a van stolen about a year ago, which we never found. At times the vans do carry valuable loads, but the real impact on our business is the loss of a vehicle from our busy fleet. I'm now confident that we need not worry about losing another vehicle and would even hope to catch the criminals
unaware this time.

"I'm so impressed with RAM that I've referred them to our other departments and divisions, as I know they could benefit just as we have," concluded Prowse.
